This Memorial Day weekend, the hottest ticket in the New York Tri-state area was to the ragingly humorous play "The Politicians," which boasted sold out stagings in Hartford, Connecticut and Queens, New York on Saturday, May 26 and Sunday, May 27 respectively. The plays' promoters Irish and Chin were all smiles as theatergoers lined up as early as two hours before doors opened, highly anticipating the outrageous night of fun that lied ahead with some of their favorite Jamaican theater actors including Andrea "Delcita" Wright, Keith "Shebada" Ramsay, Christopher "Johnny" Daley, Michael "Stringbeans" Nicholson, Abigail "Babalita" Grant and more! Because of the massive turn out and demand for "The Politicians," Irish and Chin has encore performances of the play set for Saturday, June 23 (Campus High School, East Orange, NJ) and Sunday, June 24 (Evander Childs High School, Bronx, NY).
At York College in particular, the incredible line that formed outside before the play was an indicator of the play's success and result of heavy promotions. In fact, there were hundreds of theatergoers trying to buy tickets at the door. "I am truly thrilled by the amazing turn out of patrons to "The Politicians" this weekend. However, I am sorry that there were a large number of patrons who could not get in since the show was sold out in advance," says Ronald Fraser, Irish and Chin Events Manager. To make up for this, Irish and Chin is inviting patrons who were not able to attend the York College staging to take in one of the upcoming performances in New Jersey and the Bronx. Adding to this, as a special treat for their attendance, Irish and Chin will reimburse patrons from Brooklyn and Queens for their toll expenses with a receipt.
York College's auditorium was filled with enjoyment as mostly couples and groups of friends and families soaked in good times and laughter throughout the night. The robust talented cast of "The Politicians" captured the audience from start to finish with loads of jokes, quips and funny lines. The play's heavy hitters like Delcita, Shebada, Johnny Daley and Stringbeans were never short on crowd response. Overall, as patrons exited auditoriums in Hartford and Queens, there were signs of pure fulfillment in the air. Namely, there was lots of chatter on how great the play was, reflecting on the best lines of the night and moments. As always, Irish and Chin is thankful for the support of patrons, who have made their expansion into Jamaican theater a successful one. Furthermore, the leading promotions company looks forwards to the continued production of top Caribbean entertainment.
