Mighty Crown has become a sound system enigma of sorts, as they originate thousands of miles from the Jamaican birthplace of sound systems and sound competitions. Nevertheless, once Mighty Crown got a taste of the Dancehall and Sound System industry’s savory flavor, they’ve been coming back for more. Mighty Crown proudly represents the Dancehall industry, while holding down an omni-presence in their home land.

Mighty Crown’s career began in Japan, but from the beginning, their aim was to take their abilities to other countries. Needless to say, Mighty Crown’s dream has been overly achieved. The thriving sound now boasts a worldwide presence, regularly performing in territories through out the United States, Canada, Caribbean, Europe and Central America. Mighty Crown has clearly become the “The Far East Rulers.”

The “Far East Rulers” first entered Irish and Chin’s World Clash series in Brooklyn, New York, 1999. That year, they became the first Japanese (and non-Jamaican) sound to take home the coveted and highly respected WorldSimon and Sammy from Mighty Crown dancehall Reggae sound in Japan Clash title. Boldly, Mighty Crown defeated a cohort of sounds from Jamaica and the United States.

The 15th Anniversary Celebration Concert in Japan
Although in existence since 1991, it was this victory, which jump-started a very prosperous career for Mighty Crown. Ultimately, the World Clash victory secured Mighty Crown with world-wide popularity. Subsequently, Mighty Crown scored a number of clash victories including UK Cup Clash (World Clash England), World Clash Antigua and many more. The sound also won a number of face-off competitions against leading sound systems/selectors including Black Kat, Tony Matterhorn, Ricky Trooper, etc. Today, Mighty Crown is one of the industry’s most respected sound systems.

Mighty Crown is celebrating their 16th Anniversary in the business throughout the year with a number of high profile Reggae concerts in Japan. If this year’s festivities are anything like the monstrous celebrations of 2006 (top Reggae artists performed and over 40,000 attended), you can only imagine what to expect.

In Japan, Mighty Crown is a movement. The name Mighty Crown is synonymous to Reggae/Dancehall music and success. Mighty Crown operates an entertainment empire, which is Japan’s premiere source of Reggae music and culture. Mighty Crown Entertainment, the sound’s parent company, is made up of Life Style Records, Nine Rulaz clothing and Strive magazine. And in 2006, there was a limited edition “Mighty Crown” Nike sneaker.
