FucK What You Heard : Life Seeds I Sow
Posted by ryderz on 12/10/2007 (845 reads)

Two articles written and published; yet not one reply from Garfield...is this a sign from Jah?

Greetings:

Perhaps at times I become a bit over-passionate and over involved in the clash game and have to take some TIME OUT to reflect and smell the coffee. I posted a blog commentary to Chin and it was answered by his proxy blogger,  Lawdhavemercy, a DHR veteran who perhaps does not get his due treatment on other forums. So I can overstand his eagerness to jump to Chin’s defense.

In any aspect of the LIFE CYCLE we should know that in order for that cycle to continue we need to replenish the CYCLE on a constant basis. If this is not done the cycle is broken and the LIFE expires.

Riddle me this:
·         how has Brazil remained a soccer superpower
·         how have the Yankees remained America’s favourite team
·         how does our individual family name/customs survive over the centuries

The answer is simply that we constantly feed new players or infants into the CYCLE and groom them towards the TEAM/FAMILY mentality.

Over the last 2-3 years, I personally have had the great pleasure of meeting many new, young, relatively unknown sound systems. Whether it be through the internet or traveling to various events. The names, locales, styles differ. Yet one constant remains - their raw  passion towards sound clash.

When I say passion I don’t mean the passion to collect money or to get women. But the passion to develop their skills whether mixing, dub cutting, juggling, emceeing or even in some cases to self promote

The unfortunate reality for these sounds is that the sound clash industry in the western hemisphere has taken a nosedive for several reasons. Essentially they have become the last of the Mohicans and don’t wish to fit into the JIGGY tite pants arena and as such become somewhat of lone rangers.

Mek mi ask a question: What happens wen yu put a bunch of lone rangers together? You get a posse...

My question to Chin is this: As a clash fan, not a promoter, can you realistically say that BLACK KAT or BASS ODYSSEY come to an event with more passion than a SYNEMAXX or TEK 9?

As a clash fan, not a promoter, can you honestly say that a MIGHTY CROWN has more creatively written dubs than a BLUNT POSSE?

As a clash fan can you say SENTINEL is more hardcore than a SUPERSONIC?

Now as a promoter you and I both know that some sounds will bring a bigger crowd than others. Hence you as a promoter will hire them a billion times.

I have a proposal to you and your board of directors.  Just like you, I watch the bottom line of any given event. After all, mi have pickni fi feed just like yu.. So I really aink in favour of forkin out $5-7g to no sound whatsoever and quite frankly they know they will never see these prices from me.

So I keep it real with them and we either come to an agreement to co-promote or some other amicable terms. In the run up to the event I give it as much hype as possible on a local and international level and after the clash I push the audio to every known corner of our universe. What they deliver on the night in question is entirely up to dem. My policy remains swim or sink.

As one promoter to another let’s draw on some strengths. Your strength is that every one in the world knows and adores you and any event you touch turns to gold. My strength is that I stay in touch with the small guy and deal with everyone on a mutual level of respect.

In 2008 let us set up some small (low budget, intimate venues) events in New York, Florida, Bermuda, Antigua, and Germany and bring forth some new sounds to the arena.

When is all is said and done we can kick back and say to ourselves... Yes we have replenished the LIFE CYCLE of SOUND CLASH.

Looking forward to your reply.
LHM can hold a seat for this one.

Well Well, my first article was published...now if only my dear cousin Garfield would actually reply, I can die in peace.

Greetings Again,

I have been thinking long and hard on this topic and wish to throw a challenge out to Garfield. And let's see if he is a prophet or a pimp. Some of you who read dhr.com or Chin's blogs may have the idea that Chin and I are enemies or constantly at each other's jugular.

Not so -- in fact, we are good friends. Ironically, we found out this summer that we have mutual relatives.  Is he my blood cousin..who knows? Is he my arch nemesis?  Heck no. He is however somewhat of a mentor and some what of a student.

When I say mentor, I mean in the sense of soundclash promotions.  I have learned a lot from observation and conversation.  When we are in Jamaica, we often spend countless hours in the office debating different elements of dancehall.  And when time comes -- we do kick off with our differing views and approaches.  However, at the end of the day, "iron sharpens iron."  I  can not say that I have not become a better promoter because of our dialogue.

Now on the other hand, Chin seems to have a challenge with his image of being a snob or general arrogant mofo. Perhaps some of this is earned and perhaps some of it is just peoples' perception.  So same time I have to try to take time and show him how to reconnect with the average non celebrity joe. I guess because on a daily basis he has to deal with the likes of:

tony matterhorn
beenie man
ninja man
mighty crown
panther
squingy
busy signal
bling dawg
mavado
etc etc.

He may feel to him self "why do i need to talk to them likkle small sound guys.  exactly who are they to invade my world."  Well let's quickly remind Chin that the small sound guys are the guys who collectively spend millions of dollars cutting dubs in hopes of one day getting to world clash and spend thousands of dollars traveling to and attending world clash.  And some look up to him as some form of demigod.

So, in essence, these small sound guys are the ones who have helped make him the success that he has become...

One sure thing -- Chin does remind me of any given politician.  He only knows his constituents when election time draws nigh. And once re-elected has likkle to no time for them.

Now, these are my challenges to Chin:

*Take time to learn about some of these upcoming sounds
*Invite some to play in your events now and then
*Send them an email with some encouragement at times
*Put on small events for them to showcase their talents
*Critique them when need be
*Give them access to your vast array of media outlets

The list goes on.

In other words, let's start grooming the next generation of sound systems like:

tek 9
blunt posse
irie crew
gramigna
don rankin
wardadli souljahs
king animosity
goldmine
camouflage
riddim force
supersonic
warrior sound

etc etc.

The bottom line is -- Chin has set him self on this pedestal that he is God’s gift to sound clash and his words are anointed verses from Zion.  My question remains to him…..are you a prophet or a pimp?

FucK What You Heard : Greetings!
Posted by ryderz on 11/30/2007 (616 reads)

Greetings:

This is the fourth column I have written for this website and thus far none have been published.  Either my writing skills are not up to par for my dear cousin Garfield or he fears my intellectual capacity overrunning his facade of supremacy. Either way I will write this column; if it does not get published I know for sure he was only grandstanding this whole promoter unity spiel.

The topic today is GAME OVER - not the event GAME OVER because that has been dissected in various laboratories and morgues of the internet. My opinion of that is like a sheep bleating in the wind. What I wish to discuss is the bigger picture.

As promoters we always try to find and use catch phrases to grab peoples attention and make them attend our events. So I figured Chin, in his infinite wisdom, decided hey "let me trick the people into thinking this is the last train to heaven and mek a money”. Well by my calculations standing at the entrance from 11pm-4am, he got 4-5000 persons in that train called Amazura. So hey it worked.

Now as a sound owner and clash fan I have some serious issues with the term “GAME OVER”. Here are my reasons
It implies to the general public that there is no hope in soundclash in the U.S. anymore and going to any other sound clashes would be a waste of time.
It gives U.S. based sounds yet another kick in the ass saying “we never wanted you and we never will hire you!”
As a promoter I know Chin looked out into that sea of humanity in Amazura and felt he was Moses incarnate leading the people to the promised land. I also noticed he was well dressed complete in a BURBERRY necktie. Hmm, maybe he thought he was TD JAKES and like all good Pentecostal ministers he deserved to reap the collection plate. Either way I know dat dude has something planned for 2k8 ..its no way he is going to walk away from all that loot.

For years Chin has been accused of pimping the game for his own benefit. Some may say - this is America the land of pimps so what’s the big deal????. That may be true but I feel that as cold hearted as Chin comes across to most people when you get to know him there is a sound clash fan inside that loves the event more than the money (haha) and as such I think its only right that he puts aside some of the earnings from GAME OVER to invest in bringing forth events featuring new blood sounds

Here is the recipe
·                                 small venue 300 persons
·                                 3 hungry sounds
·                                 free for women
·                                 every 3 months
Some may say this is the Back-to-Basics recipe. Yes, to an extent. .But lets be real folks; HECKLERS INC does not currently enjoy the marketing power of IRISH & CHIN Inc. so the attendance numbers will differ greatly. Am I proposing selling out B2B? Not on your life!! I am merely saying that soundclash needs more events and more promoters working in unison. The partiality may appease egos but really does nothing for the sport.

I will continue this column based on the topic and frame work for promoters to work in unison. (haha)

That is if:
A. It has been published.
B Garfield has replied.

Respect,
Ryderz
