Jr. P, the owner and former selector of Soul Supreme, called into the Sound Chat Radio show on Monday, May 14. It was an interesting conversation. We talked about their upcoming clash set for Friday, June 1 in Brooklyn, NY. It will be Soul Supreme's first time off the bench in over a decade. The question is can they prevail? Can they win this clash? Soul Supreme's contenders are Brooklyn's young but deadly sound Kosmic, the legendary Silver Hawk and Synemax. I threw out the big questions and got good answers.
Jr. P gave callers good insight on what he has to offer the morden day arena. He said he has learned from his mistakes in the past. Jr. P stated that the original Soul Supreme had the ammo, but lacked the talent to move the sound to world fame in the 90's. His new team, a group of young shottas, has what it takes to make a mark in the clash arena. Personally, I am not familiar with the persons playing the sound, so I can't vouch for them just yet! But I am looking forward to seeing what they have to offer.
What surprised me though is when Jr. P announced that Fargo, the sound's most popular member, is NO longer with the team. He would not say what happened between them, but he did state that Fargo wants to be his own boss, which caused a problem. Rumor has it though, that the problem occurred when Fargo wanted to play his own sound and also play Soul Supreme. The Soul Supreme team of course told him that he had to make a choice. It was either his thing or their thing, but not both. Again, that's how rumor has it that. Apparently, Fargo agreed to the terms and demands made by Soul Supreme's management team, but then went ahead and competed in a sound clash under his own heading, a clash in which he lost badly! Very badly! Once the word got out that the lead selector of Soul Supreme lost an easy clash to junior league sounds, Soul Supreme allegedly relieved him of his duties.
It is being said that Soul Supreme did not part with Fargo because he lost, rather that they parted with him because he lied.
Here is the issue. Clash fans are saying that Fargo is the one who knows the dubs best. It is being said that the other selectors on the sound have a lot more to learn in regards to the sound's killer selections. So, what will their fate be on June 1? If they win without Fargo, there will be NO chance for Fargo returning to the sound! If they lose, then people may feel their decision to part ways with Fargo was a wrong move!
At the end of the day, I see this one coming down to Kosmic and Soul Supreme in the "tune fi tune" -- a real Brooklyn face off! The young meets the old! Silver Hawk and Synemax will be out-voted by biased Brooklyn fans wanting to see a civil war. My money is on Soul Supreme for this one, but if they let me down, trust me -- Sound Chat on Monday will not fall in their favor!
My respect goes to both Fargo and the Soul Supreme family. June 1st!!!!
