Asafa Powell looked easy in the first semi-final of the men's 100m winning his race in a time of 9.92 seconds at the JAAA/SVL Jamaica National Senior Championships. After the race Powell stated that his groin is sore and he struggled to get out of the blocks. It was rumoured earlier in theasafa day that Asafa Powell had an injury concern.

Powell beat club-mate Nesta Carter and Yohan Blake into second and third respectively with times of 9.95 and 9.96 seconds. Kemar Bailey-Cole finished fourth in 10.06

Usain Bolt had to come from behind in his semi-final to pip Michael Frater on the line in a time of 10.01 seconds. Michael Frater finished in a time of 10.02 Lerone Clarke 3rd in a time of 10.07 seconds, and Jacques Harvey was fourth in 10.08 seconds.
