Top riding Popcaan has released a statement concerning his current relationship with the now dissolved Portmore Empire. He said rumors that he had left the group last October were false as he instead had simply decided to seek alternate booking arrangements after Vybz Kartel was arrested. He said up until May 2012 when the group was disbanded he had no formal management arrangements with anyone else, further stating that he has not visited Kartel for the simple fact that he was told only family members were allowed and that Kartel himself also wrote to him saying he should stay away from the Police.

Regarding his allegiance to Gaza he had this to say "I am Gaza for Life. I have never said and will never say I am not a part of Gaza. Gaza is my original home and foundation and I will always remain loyal to the Gaza. As I move forward and progress in the music industry I will use my success to bring forward other artistes like Vybz Kartel did for me and like Bounty Killer did for him."

"Unscrupulous persons have called me and my family members with threats on my life, my family's lives and threats to bottle my performances. I will not focus on this as I remain committed to my music, my career and my fans."
