Damn, one of of the world's greatest sounds continues to be defeated by lack of preparation and overwhelming ego. Something is really fucking wrong with this picture.... Baby Face..talented, Kila Bo..talented,...Danny Dread..talented, Matterhorn.... talented. So, what the hell happened in Antigua?!!! Three generations of Addies were defeated at the same time by Europe's Super sonic in Antigua last night.
According to sources, King Addies ONLY won the vocal round. They played their hit dubs in the early half of the clash (Nitty Gritty, Tenor Saw, Nico Demus, Super Cat, etc.) and none got forwards. Tony Matterhorn, after hiding in the crowd for the first half of the clash, came to the rescue of his dying sound, and failed to save their lives.
Although greeted with forwards upon his arrival to the stage, Matterhorn's cheers died out quickly because Addies played the wrong selections to back him. I ask... why have Matterhorn fly to Antigua for a surprise performance and not have it planned out? How could they not have the right selections lined up for him to tear the venue apart? This was beyond a dummy move!! It seems like Addies is all talk and no action.
I say no action because they weren't prepared for this competition at all, making really stupid mistakes. Antigua is one of the easiest places to "buss".. ...all one has to do is come strong with the entertainment factor. Matterhorn is the KING of Antigua, so how stupid does it make Addies look to bring Matterhorn on stage and still lose the clash by a landslide.
I said before that Addies needs to win a clash without Matterhorn. That way, it would prove to the world that they still have their strength. This clash changes everything!!! Losing with Matterhorn is worst then losing without him. It show weakness. I am starting to think that our friend, who I rate so highly, is washed up! Tooooo much ego and not enough work going into preparing for clashes.
Please ask yourself this: If the members of King Addies were fully prepared to clash Supersonic, why did Tony Matterhorn have to plug in his laptop to find his personal selections to attempt to "buss" the crowd? The more I think about the return of Addies -- the more I realize that my prediction of them saving the industry was wrong. Their return is doing more damage to the sound than good. It's actually turning into a joke.
By no means am I saying the sound is not good or that it's selectors are not good. What I am saying is that there is a visible lack of chemistry and cohesion between the dub box, the mic man and the selector. Those of you die hard fans of Addies can continue making excuses. But understand that the excuses you continue to create for the sound's lack of performance will only continue to embarrass you -- like it did this weekend in Antigua.
Hats off to Supersonic though. This is a great look for them! Killing Matterhorn on Addies was something the industry thought could never happen.
