Big Problem!

chinI touched the road last weekend to catch a VIBE.  And mannn I tell you!  Dancehall is in a lot of trouble.  I'm starting to worry but the future of the whole sound system industry.  For one!!!! Big sounds are getting too carried away with juggling 45's.  Why the FUCK should a promoter pay a big sound $2000 - $3000 plus all the other shit, just for them to play what all the local sounds are playing.  It's straight fuckery!  Sounds are getting lazy and cheap.

Yea…. dubs are expensive, but so is GAS!  Nevertheless, drivers don't park their rides.  Instead they balance their expensive to afford what is necessary.  I'm not saying one has to play dubs all night but... damn give the people something different. Suppen fi dem money!

International sounds and selectors must go back to the time when patrons came to dance to hear rear selections.  Ones that could only be played by a certain sound for instance Stone Love.  Back in the day when the vibe was nice and people supported events solely based on the sound systems that were playing and not who the promoter was, Stone Love was among the names of sound systems that brought flavor to both juggling and clash arena.

In a Stone Love dance patrons could hear a specific juggling that could not be duplicated by any other sound systems.  Signatory juggling!  Selections of top artistes on choice rhythms that left the place in a frenzy.  Some of these dub plates were not even on 45, yet everywhere Stone Love travelled the patrons knew the dubs word for word.  This also held true for sounds like Afrique, Gemini, Metro Media etc.  Therefore sound systems were able to attract large fan bases and hold a decent financial value.

Nowadays such values don’t exist.  Sounds both clash and juggling are lacking excitement: selections are boring, and patrons are showing no interest in seeing them perform.  It is evident that if the preparations for sound system performances do not improve, the demand to book international sound systems would become obsolete.

Chin..Believe it or not...there are still some sound systems out there that play with a great deal of authenticity... A few even mix REAL WAX 45s in their jugglin...Have u ever heard of a sound name Hype Revolution...th e selectors have a new way of playing old songs and still keep the new dancehall fans happy. I was in Jamaica for the summer and I heard them playing in Mandeville...I think the sound system in from Saint Mary however. The point that i'm trying to make is that even though some sounds are taking short cuts...there are still a few out there that are true to the music and the fans.

everything changes chin , nothing ever remains the same , new generations have usherd in different ways of playing music jus like how theres almost no more records now or even cd's for that matter. we the fans of the authentic ways of jugglin are no longer the target audiences . For instace ive seen fire links, a top and no doubt authentic selector play a brand new movado medley dub plate 2 weeks ago for the first time in a dance that was ram in fletchers land, and get almost no fowards ...

I agree that the sound systems are letting down the patrons like me that enjoy good reggae/dancehal l and just wish for a slight variation that would differentiate then from a regular selector or sounds. where i live it would cost about 30 to 40 $ gate fee for an international sounds as opposed to 10 to 25 $ for local selectors. what i am trying to say is that is i would pay $50 or even more just to hear some ole songs given live through dubs. POWER TO THE MUSIC

There is always an era for something and maybe the clash era has passed. The patriotic fans of ten years ago have aged and matured. Developed businesses, family, alternate networks and have different ideals. As for the sounds, they have grown old and replacements have a whole new genre. Just a thought
