It's not even funny how much I have to say about this clash. However, first I have to congratulate Panther on another milestone/victory. A win is a win in my book once it's gained fairly and within the rules of the competition. Panther did earn his victory, but the clash was not impressive at all. The performances by both sound clash icons were horrible! Baby Face of course being the worst of the two.
The Story
Baby Face -- oh my God!!!! What the fuck was this dude thinking? He played Addies like he was just hired yesterday and had not yet learned the dubs. I couldn't believe that he was so lost like fish out of water. First, The man flopped all night! A hand went up here and there... but nothing to talk about. He had no speech.... just the regular bad man bull shit, suck yu mother, and Brooklyn, Brooklyn, Brooklyn. None of his speeches were effective though. In fact, some of his top dubs were either booed or received no response. I think this was because his selections were all over the place. There was no build up, no flow -- just playing whatever! This is not the King Addies formula. Addies was all about "slow death" and third round killing.
Baby Face is still one of the greatest in my book though. Despite what people are saying about his recent performances, I don't think he is washed up. However, it's clear that he needs help. He needs a back up, a young selector to groom -- someone fresh and ready to become a star! They don't have to have the talent of Tony Matterhorn because Baby Face will be able to teach and mold the person into an effective front man. The question is -- Will Baby Face want to pass the torch onto another person ???? He seems to love the fame too much, which may have been the reason behind Matterhorn, Winter Fresh, Jam Jam, and Kila Bo departing. Baby Face just needs to change his position on the sound; play the teacher role and stop the up front thing. This new generation can't relate to him and his approach. Again, it's that ego thing killing him. He is so high on what use to be, he doesn't realize that one is as good as their last victory. Baby Face made so many mistakes in this clash. DREW H.I.M could have played the sound better!!! And I mean that shit. At one point -- by the grace of God, Baby Face gained a lead in the clash and turned it over to Panther.
A huge pressure was placed on Panther and Panther flopped... placing everything in Faces' corner. And what the fuck did Face do??? He came in and flopped with all of Addies killer selections in his box. But Face's biggest enemy of the clash was not Panther, it was the audience/fans. It seems as if they hate him. It probably goes back to him not being a people person. The crowd wanted him to lose badly. So, going up against a charmer like Panther was a double negative for him from the beginning. The only way for Addies to connect with the youth is to create a youth that the younger generation believes in. Baby Face as the front man will hinder and kill a great sound. For example... Danny Dread was standing around the sound all night, but Baby Face wanted to be a one man army and flopped badly. When Danny Dread finally got a chance to join in, he buss the place crazy!!! Again, this shows that Baby Face needs to change positions! And I will tell you why. If you looked good, Danny was talking, but Baby Face was pulling the selections and the place was on FIRE! Everyone is saying Danny Dread saved the day (and in a way he did). But let's not forget who was playing the dubs. Danny was just presenting Baby Face's selections. Danny Dread never made any strong speeches -- he was dancing with the mic.
Baby Face went on to pull more selections and played the strongest 10mins in the whole fuckin dance without doing much talking. AGAIN THIS DISPLAYS A DISCONNECT WITH THE FANS ON THE PART OF BABY FACE. I can go on forever with this shit, but it would be too much reading. So, in closing I say this.. the industry needs Addies. It adds flavor to the arena. Baby Face is an icon despite being an asshole! Face needs to realize his importance and be a smart business man. For the fans, Addies returning in top form means excitement. For him, it means "BIG BUCKS". What sense did it make to spend a life time creating KING ADDIES and then because of an ego destroy it? Baby Face should pass it on like Danny Dread passed it on to him. Danny Dread took him out of a record shop in Brooklyn and turned him into an icon. If Danny kept the sound to himself, then Addies would have died out long ago. Danny sent his on to the next generation by creating a new front man...one that we know as BABY FACE! At the clash, Baby Face said on the mic that it's about "THE MUSIC." So, why does his actions show that it's all about "HIM?"

This my two cents about this whole addies thing. Irish and chin as big promoters just listen for a sec. Addies needs another big sound a jaro or even silver hawk though i dont know how big silver hawk is overseas. Then babyface and daddy dread needs to go one a tour with that sound clash everynight . Europe is a good start but just keep it up for months. Keep cutting tunes on the low and get their feel back stop going for a big sound and a knock out punch. Do that for three months straight then come back to brooklyn clash a sound like lp call is unfinish business lock then off then go after a sound like bodyguard same thing and so on by next summer every sound will get a beating .
I'm tired of hearing of this re-birth. I went to a jump-off cause they said Addies was coming back on the road HARD (you know BK GOES HARD in everything)..so I sacrafice some night sleep and go deh. Know who was therer?..jam-Ja m..My Brother & I..the waitress & doorman nuh count!
That was couple years back..Then IT was Killa Boo who was gonna infuse some energy..NAWWWWW.
IF FACE SO BAD..how come out of all his contempararies. .Trooper..Matth erhorn..Fire Linx..whole a dem left the sound what bring dem (or made them)..ventured on their own N BUSS. Face with Lion sound no mek no noise. How come?.. because it's FACE. NO charisma more than bad man talk. Yute fi satta & come out a di limelight..hang le what he does best and mek some yute deal wid it. Stan up wid Danny Dread & teach some yutes how to push di war machine..cause CHEWNS DEH DEH LIKE DIRT (not the fuckry Customs whe him build whe day)
