A VALID POINT

I was listening to the radio on Saturday and a caller made a very good point about the recent violence surrounding dancehall. The person said that innocent people and children have died in Jamaica as a result of gun fire. Nevertheless, dancehall artists have continued to record songs glorifying the gun and a life of crime. But, all of a sudden the life style they glorify has injured two of their own. And now these same artists are calling for peace in Jamaica.

The caller spoke of a gathering of artists in Kingston, where they read from the bible and sang songs in the name of a fellow artist who was shot. The caller went on to say that a gathering should have been done when it was announced that the murder rate on the Island was somewhere close to 500 people before the middle of 2010. The caller then asked why should artists be taken serious and further indicated that artists only care about their own and feel that they are more important than the other citizens of the country. This is a real touchy matter. What are your views on this topic?

The only time this artist will realize that crime is taking over the island is when their family and friends start to die. until then they will see no harm in their gun songs.

it will always be like that the artist feel they are bigger and better than the average citizen ,look at squingy who did some much for so many artist yet they could not even show up to his funeral to pay their respect ,artist should have been keeping rallies from the time the murder rate start to increase to show that they care about what is going on in their communities

Artists feed the fans - the fans accept the hype ! If the fans reject the hype the artists have to change....cycle of the life of music...can I just say this though...there are a lot of other genres of music that promote violence too ALL of the 3rd world and even the USA has a violence problem..knife crime in the UK is at record levels too....plus Hollywood/Polit icians are the biggest distributer of gun violence PERIOD....Gun tunes have always existed let us not forget the film and politics are also great factors !

So what about the people who are killed in Jamaica that not not violent. How come to artist never rally for them. I agree with the Caller.

Cause the reason why the artist united was because the singer that got shot was a singer they thought did not deserve to be shot or robbed, he was not a violent person.
