A Violent Week

jamaican-passportI spent a few days in Jamaica this week. Wow.. the pressure is on! Two artists shot in less than a week! And the suspected shooter of one artist found dead just days after the shooting! What's going on? The recent violence surrounding the entertainment industry has some pointing fingers at dancehall music.

Many are saying that the actions and/or lyrics of certain artists have created such tension. Not to mention, it doesn't help that a certain selector went on YOU TUBE flashing a gun, talking shit and insinuating that he would bring harm to others in the industry. The average person who saw this footage doesn't know that he is a harmless pussy trying to get a hype. So, everything that he said was taken literally. Such actions have lead the U.S. to feel that dancehall artists are gangsters, hence one of the reasons why visas are being taken away and people are being investigated.

So, what can be done to fix this catastrophic situation? How bad will things get before they get better? What's your view?

I am a sound Owner and Selector in Harare, Zimbabwe. We as soundmna are responsible for what we play. So my sound decided to stop playing all gun tunes. We play Rasta tunes. Since we don\'t like gay guys , we also play fire tunes to burn out the homosexuals. One Love

Not that I wish any ill to any dancehall artists, but how can people be surprised when certain artist are involved in violent altercations when their lyrics encourage/sugge sts nothing but that! who has more graphically violent and horrific spouts of violence in their music than mad cobra.....
Todays hardcore dancehall artists needs to be prepared to practice what they preach or shut the F#%$ up! In one breath they tell of the most creative ways to end someone\'s life and how many bullets they\'ll shell out and in another breath promote peace and encourage the yutes to go to school??? c\'mon now!
and to make it worst they go to extreme extents to prove their music is not just music its real (to promote street credibility)... because if u cant back up yuh talk, den dont seh nuttn.....
if a peace yah promote, then promote peace consistently, and if a war yah promote with ur music expect real badman fi put dem to the test...DAMN HYPOCRITES!!
