A few days before the clash mother nature flexed her muscles, which resulted as we all already know in a
major historical shut down of most airports across the globe. In one word, "catastrophic." Big up to all the sounds for working with us on finding solutions to solve the travel issues on getting to Holland on time, and then back to your onward destinations. Nuff nuff respect!!Because we at Herbalize-it are realest we cannot turn a blind eye to all the hype and controversy following the last edition of War Ina East 2010. In true Herbalize-it professional style we publish this piece. We're not going to point fingers, or defend our actions since we believe that the true clash fans are sophisticated enough to appreciate the true essence of the words that follow. The massive chose and Supersonic won when the final bomb dropped. Audio of the night is available for all to listen and soon when the official dvd is released the whole world would be able to see what transpired and draw its own conclusions. Its a pity that such an important clash in the bigger universal clash picture has been undermined by certain individuals who really should know better. Unfortunately, these sad people have settled themselves in this line of business, constantly disrespecting the people that still do this for the love, constantly disrespecting the people and ideas that don't align to their ideals, constantly disrespecting the less experienced but still passionate, disrespecting and being totally oblivious to cultural norms that transcends borders and countries, yet bounded together by music, the universal language and number one reason for why we do what we do.
Realness is recognizing and respecting the people who have made major contributions to the development and success of the business. Realness is being smart enough to know there is a time and place for everything, and personal feelings should not lead to one disrespecting another man's home. Realness is recognizing that if you treat people with respect, respect would be returned to you regardless of who you are, full stop! A word of advice for all the super-sized egos and people tooting their own horns, when the smoke and bullshit clears, true realness remains and it always prevails. Memba that!
With that said, we at Herbalize-it would first like to thank all the clash fans from all over the world for supporting War Ina East with heart and soul for years and years.Years of hard work to set up a respectable, professional, transparent competition that not only entertains from start to finish but now attracts the best competitors worldwide. Constant growth, this is a fact! To the true clash fans, thank you for understanding that this clash is our way of adding a different positive dynamic to the European reggae/dancehall culture, mainly to spotlight talent and show the world that sound-systems here can perform on the highest level. Thank you for believing in the quality and validity of the editions we put forward with nothing but love and maximum support.
Over-all, Herbalize-it is very satisfied and honoured to once again promote an event that has fulfilled its purpose to not only entertain, but more importantly put Caribbean culture on centre stage, glorifying the reggae/dancehall clash scene in Europe. Of-course there would be detractors that would not agree to the night being a success but oh how boring would life be without these haters!
The fundamental idea for our clashes and how we design them is to reap the fullest enjoyment and give the massive a wicked night of entertainment. This means simply choosing the right competitors and defining rules that would produce this effect. A great example is last year's War ina East where the USA vs Europe Tag Team, point system with no custom dubs allowed, was an insane hit not only for the massive on the night but also was after adopted by other clash promoters for their own events. This year we chose once again for top of the shelf competitors but opted to keep the rules clear and simple as with most worldwide 1 vs. 1 clashes. Thus, no rules and after the dub-fi-dub round the massive chooses the winner. In other words, which sound performed the best over the entire clash. What could be simpler?
At Herbalize-it we are our biggest critics and are the first to admit that certain elements of the clash could have been handled better. And so, we have already taken a critical look at our performance as hosts/promoters to identify the areas where betterment is needed. For instance the misunderstanding with the timing resulting in Supersonic playing seven minutes instead of ten in the forth round. This was an inexcusable mistake on our part and we have already decided on a fool-proof solution for 2011. One other situation which we would definitely pay attention too in the future is ensuring that a clear explanation of the rules of the clash is maintained from start to finish, for complete understanding by the public and competitors.
Herbalize-it is all about integrity, transparency and quality with the maximum emphasis on good entertainment. War Ina East is not molded to follow any specific other clash but has taken on its own identity and structure, which fits with our idea to make Clashes enjoyable while staying true to the essence of what clashing is all about and more importantly catering to our massive. This is Europe, not America, Africa, Asia, Caribbean etc. etc. Without the massive none of this would be possible so of-course we keep this fact at the forefront of our planning. Plain and simple, War Ina East keeps growing and growing, a fact nobody true to the game can deny!
Nuff love to all the fans and supporters worldwide of Herbalize-it and War Ina East. We look forward to the future and the opportunity to keep on bringing you top entertainment and would always keep pushing the artists, the music and culture further and further. Big up and congratulations again to Supersonic, an undeniable big sound on the Global scene. Mad Respect to Mighty Crown for representing on the battlefield, a wicked sound for real that have undoubtedly added to their fan-base after this clash. Chin, big up yuhself same way.
